About The Position

Under immediate supervision, performs skilled mechanical and low-voltage electrical work involving the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of specialized wastewater treatment plant and pumping station equipment. Duties include troubleshooting equipment, welding and fabricating components, operating and monitoring plant processes and remote facilities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • One to three years’ work experience in industrial maintenance, welding-fabrication, machinist, or related field required.
  • Valid State of Michigan driver’s license, maintained in good standing.
  • Ability to Read and interpret electrical schematics, pneumatic diagrams and mechanical drawings.
  • Troubleshoot electrical components used in process control applications.
  • Use various types of cutting and welding equipment.
  • Perform machinist's tasks on lathes, vertical mills, drill presses and other machinist equipment.
  • Oversee and instruct other employees in the operation and maintenance of plant equipment.
  • Plan, prioritize, and organize work effectively to meet operational needs and deadlines.
  • Knowledge of Installation, repair, and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment.

  • Skill In Troubleshooting mechanical equipment.
  • Exercising sound judgement in evaluating situations, identifying problems, and making appropriate decisions in accordance with policies, procedures, and established practices.
  • Utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow established safety protocols.
  • Required to wear a respirator while entering confined spaces and in emergency situations.
  • Must successfully complete a medical questionnaire and examination evaluation upon hire and on an annual basis.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • Provide proof of eligibility to work in the U.S. as required by federal law.

  • Vocational/Technical school or apprenticeship in industrial maintenance technology, water/wastewater treatment technology or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains, repairs, and overhauls pumps, valves, air compressors, gear reducers, conveyors, generators, and other mechanical equipment used in wastewater treatment and pumping stations.
  • Performs precision alignments and troubleshooting to ensure efficient and reliable operation of plant equipment.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs piping systems and related components to support facility operations.
  • Maintains and repairs low-voltage electrical systems and components, including generators, switches, conduits, boxes, and control equipment.
  • Troubleshoots electrical problems and performs diagnostic testing, including ampere load readings.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Designs, fabricates, modifies, and repairs machinery and equipment components using welding and machining techniques.
  • Performs TIG and MIG welding and operates lathes, vertical mills, drill presses, and other machine shop equipment to manufacture or repair parts.
  • Operates wastewater treatment plant and pumping station equipment as required and serves as a Wastewater Treatment Plant and Remote Facilities Operator during emergency or operational needs.
  • May serve as a lead worker by providing training, guidance, and work inspections for employees involved in the operation and maintenance of department equipment.
  • Adhere to all utility security policies and procedures, including those outlined in the Emergency Response Plan (ERP) and Risk and Resilience Assessment (RRA) documentation, to ensure the ongoing security and resilience of the water system's infrastructure, operations, and water quality.
  • Immediately report any actual or potential physical or cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, or incidents to the designated utility security point of contact or supervisor.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
