About The Position

The City of Saginaw is seeking a skilled Maintenance Mechanic to join our Water Treatment Plant team. This role involves maintaining industrial equipment and solving mechanical challenges to help provide safe, reliable drinking water to the community and maintain critical infrastructure. The position is part of a team dedicated to protecting public health and serving the community.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in mechanical maintenance and equipment repair.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State of Michigan Operator’s License.
  • Proficiency in machinist tasks, including part fabrication.
  • Skilled in electric and gas welding and cutting methods.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and electrical systems, welding principles, and safe work practices, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, mechanical drawings, and blueprints.
  • Capable of designing and engineering projects from conception to completion.
  • Basic computer literacy with ability to learn Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and maintenance software.
  • Acceptable attendance and work record as determined by management.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must successfully pass performance testing and an oral interview with a score of 70% or better.

Nice To Haves

  • Vocational/technical training in industrial electrical/mechanical maintenance preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Repair and maintain pumps, valves, generators, air compressors, diesel and internal combustion engines, and other water treatment plant equipment.
  • Install, maintain, and repair chemical feed pumps and related systems.
  • Operate machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, and drill presses.
  • Perform machinist tasks, including part fabrication.
  • Perform electric and gas welding and cutting.
