About The Position

This position is responsible for completing and supervising work related to the maintenance, modification, overhaul, repair and installation of parts and equipment at the City's water and wastewater treatment plants. Applicants must meet the City criteria for an acceptable driving record.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of complex electrical and mechanical systems in application at water and wastewater treatment plants.
  • Knowledge of the safety procedures pertaining to the repair and maintenance of water and wastewater treatment plants in the City’s utilities system.
  • Knowledge of the methods and practices of high-level maintenance and repair at water and wastewater treatment plants.
  • Skill in the use of such tools as hand tools, welding tools, chain saws, cutting torches and office equipment.
  • Skill in the maintenance and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment at water and wastewater treatment plants.
  • Skill in operating such equipment as gear puller, crane truck, bucket truck and trencher.
  • Skill in management and supervision.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
  • Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with three to five years' experience or service.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain an appropriate state-certified license for water or wastewater treatment or distribution as appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, establishes, prioritizes, assigns and completes work orders.
  • Remains available after hours to assess maintenance concerns and emergencies and provides assistance to work crews after working hours.
  • Participates in on-call rotation.
  • Helps track time sheets for payroll.
  • Inspects and monitors jobsite activities; inspects work; helps resolve problems; performs safety inspections; available in the event of emergencies.
  • Obtains price quotes from outside vendors and prepares purchase order requisitions.
  • Compiles CIP for maintenance and operations of the plants.
  • Logs and tracks work orders for water and wastewater treatment plants and completes necessary repairs.
  • Manages contacts with outside vendors for repairs City personnel cannot perform; manages projects with outside vendors and Plant ORC.
  • Assists in employee selection, discipline, and termination.
  • Trains and supervises maintenance staff on the repair of complex circuitry at the treatment plants.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
