About The Position

The City of Jefferson is seeking a Parks Maintenance Crew Leader for its Parks and Recreation Department. This role involves participating in park facility and grounds maintenance, improvement, and renovation projects. The Crew Leader will be responsible for scheduling daily work, training and instructing crew members on safe work practices, managing operations in the supervisor's absence, and fostering positive public relations between the maintenance crew and park patrons.

Requirements

  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions
  • Ability to lift, carry, push and pull up to 100 pounds
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to operate various parks equipment including: backhoes, loaders, bobcat, tandem dump truck, brush hog, skid loader, ditch witch, and trenching equipment.
  • Ability to be on call 24 hours a day for emergency purposes
  • Ability to follow directions
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to organize equipment requirement necessary for daily jobs
  • High school diploma
  • Five years' experience in general park grounds and facility maintenance, building trades and construction, maintaining park and construction equipment or closely related work.
  • Missouri CDL Class A license with air brakes

Responsibilities

  • Performs building and grounds maintenance and construction on City-owned property and facilities including buildings, shelters, pavilions, trails, playgrounds, ball fields, bathrooms, concession stands, ice arena, swimming pool, tennis courts, golf course, and irrigation systems.
  • Performs mowing, painting, minor carpentry, plumbing, electrical, fabrication, grading and seeding, tree trimming, removal of waste materials, and depending on the position, horticulture, landscaping and tree care.
  • Uses heavy and light equipment, and hand tools to perform functions, including mower, weedeater, chainsaw, brush hog, ditch witch, trencher, chipper, backhoe, tandem dump truck, skid loader, bobcat, and trucks.
  • Performs snow and ice removal on trails, parking lots, and sidewalks.
  • Sets up and tears down for City special events and activities.
  • Performs repairs and preventive maintenance on equipment.
  • Performs work in a safe manner, securing work site and following work zone safety rules, wearing safety equipment including glasses, boots, gloves, hearing protection, helmets, and harnesses.
  • Maintains good public relations with customers.
  • Maintains accurate, reliable records of daily work, equipment used, worksites, and projects.
  • Inspects work progress, equipment, or construction sites to verify safety or to ensure that crews are performing work according to specifications and standards.
