About The Position

The Plant Lead is responsible for supporting daily plant operations by leading production employees, ensuring safety and quality standards are met, and operating production machinery as needed. This role serves as a working leader who balances hands-on production responsibilities with team coordination, training, and operational oversight to achieve production goals efficiently and safely.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1-2 years of relevant warehousing, material handling, and machining experience required.
  • Ability to show adequate manual dexterity, finger dexterity, arm-hand steadiness, and multi-limb coordination required.
  • Ability to read and comprehend written instructions as applied to work situations required.
  • Basic measurement skills, including taking, converting, and/or using measurements of length, width, height, and weight to perform basic math computations correctly required.
  • Basic arithmetic skills to calculate and convert decimals and fractions required.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Windows software required.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively required.
  • Ability to make sound decisions based on a combination of factors including knowledge, experience, and judgment required.
  • Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and customers required.

Nice To Haves

  • High School diploma/GED preferred.
  • Prior machine operation experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises staff and ensures appropriate training, understanding of systems, proper performance of duties and resolution of issues and inquiries as needed.
  • Oversees and coordinates day to day operations for a functional area that may include multiple departments or areas within the plant.
  • Leads group meetings with staff.
  • Assists in the hiring process and/or makes recommendations.
  • Ensures that staff are fully trained for the job they are performing.
  • Motivates, mentors, trains, and develops staff.
  • Prepares and conducts constructive and timely performance feedback for staff development.
  • Provides coaching and counsels staff when required.
  • Independently completes a broad range of production tasks and/or planning or leading tasks and/or other staff in the accomplishment of work.
  • Sets up, operates, monitors, and troubleshoots production equipment and machinery.
  • Performs machine adjustments to maintain product quality and production efficiency.
  • Ensures machines are operating within established specifications and production standards.
  • Conducts routine inspections and performs basic preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Monitors material supply levels and coordinates replenishment as needed.
  • Assists with equipment changeovers and production line setups.
  • Calculates dimensions and tolerances and plans various operations involving close tolerances.
  • Selects and monitors speeds, feeds and controls and determines operation sequence for various materials and operating conditions.
  • Measures and examines pieces using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, verniers, and squares to ensure conformance to specifications.
  • Operates motorized material handling equipment such as an overhead crane, side-loader, and/or forklift, when required.
  • Ensures compliance with company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
  • Conducts regular quality checks and verifies products meet customer and company specifications.
  • Identifies and reports equipment malfunctions, quality issues, and safety hazards.
  • Participates in safety meetings, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintains clean and organized work areas following housekeeping standards.
  • Performs all other duties and responsibilities assigned by management.
