About The Position

The Plant Health Care Technician applies fertilization, integrated pest management, and weed and fungi controls to trees, shrubs, and lawns on client properties. The role uses spray and injection tools and other equipment, provides customer service, and safely operates vehicles and equipment. Work includes preparing and applying chemical treatments, diagnosing plant diseases, maintaining application records and equipment, and following worksite and chemical-safety procedures. The position is onsite in Houston, Texas, with travel expectations of up to 25%. It is a permanent, full-time position.

Requirements

Must be at least 21 years of age.
Valid driver’s license.
Successful completion of the Davey Tree Qualified Plant Health Care Technician training program, or ability to obtain qualification within 90 days of hire.
Ability to complete required safety courses.
Applicator licenses acquired as necessary per state requirements.
Ability to operate mobile power equipment.

Responsibilities

Apply fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides to client properties using various equipment.
Measure, mix, and prepare chemical solutions for trees, shrubs, and lawns.
Follow work order specifications and maintain proper documentation, including pesticide labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
Inspect worksites for underground utilities and installations, and set up traffic control and vehicle safety measures.
Diagnose plant diseases and determine appropriate treatments.
Operate and maintain sprayer equipment, including loading materials, filling tanks, and ensuring machinery efficiency.
Adhere to safety regulations, use safety equipment, and safely handle materials.
Perform site clean-up and maintenance tasks.
Communicate with clients about diagnoses and treatments.
Keep daily application records and time reports.
Safely operate vehicles and equipment and provide excellent customer service.
