About The Position

The Plant General Manager directs and coordinates activities of subordinate supervisors to ensure production, quality, safety, and continuous improvement objectives are met. Works daily to ensure areas of responsibility are working at risk lowered to ALARA specifically in an effort to achieve ZERO HARM. Manages all aspects of plant manufacturing from raw materials to finished products. Ensures safety, quality and productivity are attained utilizing continuous improvement and empowerment processes. Manages financial objectives by accurately compiling manufacturing and maintenance budgets, scheduling expenditures, analyzing spending variances and controlling cost; initiating corrective actions when indicated. Maintains close partnership with product manager or national sales manager to ensure production and sales objectives are compatible and directed toward Business Unit Plan/Forecast and maximize Business Unit Profitability. At the plant, oversees engineering, maintenance, capital expenditures, product development, and continuous improvement processes. Evaluates present equipment and processes for improvement opportunities and investigates new equipment and new processes for higher quality, increased performance and lower operating cost. In all decisions and evaluations; Zero Harm attributes and processes are used. Apply broad knowledge of business administration, industrial management, industrial engineering, or a related technical field to effectively perform assigned duties and responsibilities. Utilize computer systems and software, including Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, and Access, to support daily operations, maintain records, analyze information, and prepare required documentation and reports. Carries our responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Working knowledge of computers and business software, including Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access.
  • Minimum of 7 years of work-related experience required.
  • An equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience may be considered.
  • Workers are frequently required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, crouch, and lift or carry heavy materials—often over 50 pounds—throughout their shift.
  • Tasks may involve operating or working near heavy machinery, using hand and power tools, and performing repetitive motions.
  • Employees must also be able to tolerate exposure to heat, cold, loud noise, and other environmental factors such as dust, vibration, and slippery surfaces.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required, and physical agility, coordination, and situational awareness are critical to performing job duties safely and effectively in an industrial setting.
  • Workers are continuously (70–100% of the time) around moving and potentially dangerous machinery and are subject to loud noise levels that require hearing protection.
  • Frequently (30–70% of the time), they may encounter heat from both weather and industrial processes, as well as cold weather conditions.
  • Occasionally (up to 30% of the time), the environment may include wet or humid conditions, slippery floors or ramps, vibration from equipment, exposure to outside weather, dust, electrical shock hazards, and contact with oil, grease, or solvents.
  • Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safety protocols are essential in maintaining a safe and productive workspace in this industrial setting.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to wear earplugs, safety shoes, and safety glasses/goggles.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use a calculator, and routine office equipment such as telephone, fax, copier, printer, etc.
  • The employee is occasionally required to use vehicles/heavy equipment such as a forklift and overhead crane; production machinery; testing devices such as tensile and torsion tester; and measuring devices such as micrometer, tape measure, and weighing scales; and a computer.

Responsibilities

  • Manages 4-5 supervisors who supervise a total of 35-45 employees in the facility.
  • Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units.
  • Directly supervises one non-supervisory employee.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Carries our responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
