About The Position

Our Plant Engineering Manager contributes to the success of our company's ability to manufacture and distribute premium quality injection devices and related products at our De Smet, SD, based facility. This position is primarily responsible for the overall engineered system needs of our manufacturing equipment as well as the structural, security and comfort systems of the entire manufacturing and distribution facility.

Requirements

  • High school graduate with 2-year technical degree in related field required. 4-year technical degree a strong plus.
  • 10 years or more manufacturing experience in a plant that utilizes some degree of automation and robotics.
  • 3-5 years or more previous supervisory and personnel management
  • Good computer skills using the Microsoft Suite of programs as well as equipment maintenance management software.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be hands-on and have the ability to coach others on production systems.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude
  • Physical Job Requirements:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to be independently mobile to move safely within the plant.
  • Must be physically able to see, hear and possess manual dexterity to use various hand tools.
  • Must be physically able to move and lift items up to 40 pounds on an occasional basis.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and/or performs the overall installation, maintenance and repair tasks as required to support the manufacturing and facility operation activities:
  • Determines preventive maintenance (PM) schedule and required PM tasks for all plant and manufacturing equipment and ensures all PMs are completed and documented successfully and on time.
  • Owns and manages company preventive maintenance database including generation of periodic PM work orders, occasional unplanned emergency work orders, closure of all work orders and entry of pertinent data, and management of all hardcopy support documents.
  • Manufacturing and plant maintenance equipment include but are not limited to:
  • Product-specific manufacturing or packaging equipment
  • Label applicators
  • In-line bar code and text printers and scanners/verifiers
  • Sterilization chambers
  • Air compressors
  • HEPA air filtration system
  • HVAC units
  • Facility electrical, lighting and plumbing systems
  • Facility security system and building access.
  • Procures required spare parts and supplies needed to repair and return all manufacturing and facility equipment to service.
  • Manages many aspects routine sterilization production runs including oversight of EtO cylinder installation in cabinets, loading of product into sterilizers, initiation and monitoring of sterilization runs through to removal from the chamber and placement into sterile quarantine, purging of EtO cylinders nearing empty status.
  • Manages and contracts with service providers for outsourced facility maintenance functions such as pest control, grounds upkeep (mowing and snow removal), trash removal, fire alarm and fire extinguisher testing/certification, custodial support, etc.
  • Perform forklift (PIV-powered industrial vehicle) training and certification for employees.
  • Support the overall Safety Policies and Procedures in all departments:
  • Have a constant mindset to identify and remedy any situation where there is a potential threat to employees’ physical safety either through an environmental condition in the plant or on the plant grounds or through manufacturing or plant equipment that poses a risk of bodily harm.
  • Support overall product quality within the manufacturing system:
  • Fully understand the theory of operation of all manufacturing equipment along with the settings and adjustments of the machinery and how they impact manufacturing specifications.
  • Understand and help troubleshoot production software issues, including PLC programming.
  • Assist with new equipment design and installation.
  • Manage and lead the plant maintenance and custodial team:
  • Maintains all assigned functions while staying within the assigned financial budget limits.
  • Supervise assigned staff and provide work direction.
  • Conduct performance reviews and merit adjustments.
  • Facilitate necessary training to provide staff with the skills needed to succeed in the job.
  • Interview, hire, train, coach, develop, promote, discipline staff as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
