The Plant Engineering Manager plays a crucial role in planning, managing, and coordinating the activities of the plant engineering department to ensure efficient manufacturing operations. This role involves supervisory responsibilities, including recruitment, onboarding, workflow oversight, performance evaluations, and handling disciplinary actions in collaboration with HR. The position also requires collaboration with other manufacturing managers, assessing cost-effectiveness of processes, supervising maintenance operations, managing the preventive maintenance program, coordinating outside contractors, troubleshooting industrial systems, managing parts inventory, and ensuring compliance with health, safety, and regulatory standards like EPA and OSHA.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or a minimum of 8 years of experience in the manufacturing engineering field.
A minimum of 3 years of food manufacturing experience.
Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
Prior experience managing teams of hourly technicians (minimum 8).
Thorough understanding of plant engineering, industrial engineering, and tooling.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software to prepare budgets and records.
Able to thrive in a constantly changing environment.
Maintain regular, consistent attendance & punctuality.
Must have a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Able to communicate clearly with others while maintaining a positive working environment.

Responsibilities

Plan, manage, and coordinate the activities of the plant engineering department.
Facilitate efficient manufacturing operations across the organization.
Oversee the daily workflow of the department.
Collaborate with other manufacturing managers and leadership to set and assess priorities.
Assess cost effectiveness and feasibility of manufacturing processes; implement recommendations to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
Supervise maintenance operations, ensuring accuracy and adherence to quality and safety standards.
Manage the equipment preventive maintenance program.
Ensure effective utilization of a preventive maintenance system by maintenance department employees.
Coordinate all outside contractors on jobs in the plant.
Monitor the performance of outside contractors regarding time, scope, cost, and compliance with GMPs and quality assurance.
Troubleshoot complex industrial systems.
Manage parts inventory and purchasing needs.
Monitor inventory to ensure accuracy.
Work closely with QA and regulatory agencies for plant inspections.
Ensure compliance with health and safety laws, regulations, and guidelines, including EPA and OSHA requirements.
Act as a champion of Safety in the bakery, demonstrating and reinforcing its importance.
Coordinate and document required trainings with HR and Safety Manager.
Participate in the investigation of accidents and near misses.
Cooperate with established Return-To-Work policies for Worker’s Compensation related to injuries.
Monitor GMP and Food Safety rule compliance, address issues promptly, and document.
Perform other duties as assigned.
