About The Position

The Site (Plant) Controller position serves as a business partner to our manufacturing operations in Bucks, AL, and Portsmouth, VA. This role is ideal for a finance professional with strong manufacturing cost accounting experience who thrives on being close to site operations and influencing business decisions. As Site Controller, you will ensure site cost and financial accuracy, acting as the primary finance partner to site leadership. Reporting to the Finance Director, you will manage standard costing, inventory valuation, absorption modeling, and variance analysis, and lead site budgeting, forecasting, capital investment, and internal controls. This role involves working directly with site operations. Your success will be measured by your ability to understand and translate site cost drivers into actionable financial insights that support business decisions, evaluate the financial impacts of investments and operating models at the site and drive overall site performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance - CMA, CPA, and/or MBA a plus.
  • Minimum 8 years' as site controller or cost manager in a manufacturing environment (Chemical operations a plus), with an emphasis on cost accounting, reporting, and variance analysis.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Curious, self-motivated, and results-oriented, proactive, and able to prioritize meeting deadlines.
  • Manufacturing finance expertise, including cost accounting, standard costing, and inventory valuation
  • Strong FP&A capabilities in budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and capital analysis
  • Hands-on experience with ERP systems (SAP/S4HANA/EPM) and advanced Excel analytics
  • Solid understanding of financial controls, audits, and regulatory compliance

Responsibilities

  • Direct all site-level accounting and financial reporting functions in accordance with GAAP, corporate policy, and time requirements.
  • Analyze & interpret monthly financial results (P&L, Balance Sheet), including variance and bridge analysis (Price/Volume/Mix) between actual, AOP, and Forecast with supporting commentary.
  • Lead the Annual Operating Plan (AOP) and monthly rolling Forecasts; proactively identifying and communicating Risks & Opportunities (R&O) to site leadership, finance director, and FP&A.
  • Champion capital expenditure (CapEx) analysis, including ROI modeling and post-implementation audits; ensure rigorous accounting treatment of CapEx vs. OpEx spend.
  • Own the integrity of standard costs (Materials, Labor, and Overhead), ensuring the Bill of Materials (BOM) and Recipe (Routing/Process) are accurately reflected in the system.
  • Ensure accurate inventory valuation, absorption, and manufacturing cost capture.
  • Lead detailed root‑cause analysis of PPV (Purchase Price Variance), MUV (Material Usage Variance), labor efficiency, and overhead variances.
  • Partner with sites to track and reinforce OpEx spend discipline, monitor GR/IR (Goods Receipt/Invoice Receipt) and AP reconciliations, and optimize cash flow and vendor payment relations.
  • Manage inventory valuations, ensuring accurate reserves (obsolescence/slow-moving) and leading the annual physical inventory process.
  • Oversee fixed assets, depreciation, audits, and site-level controls.
  • Lead SOX compliance controls, documentation, and testing.
  • Act as primary contact for internal/external auditors
  • Lead site-level financial reviews, facilitating discussions, and providing recommendations to leadership.
  • Partner with leadership to drive a culture of productivity and continuous improvement (Lean/Six Sigma) initiatives.
  • Partners cross-functionally and serve as a key finance liaison between the sites and corporate/business finance teams.
  • Identify opportunities for financial integration and standardization.
