About The Position

The Plant Buyer will be responsible for the procurement of designated material groups, which may include Myers Industries enterprise-wide or business unit-wide raw materials, packaging components, and/or site-specific services and production supplies including maintenance and general site services. The position coordinates with the Supply Chain Manager, Supply Planner & Senior Sourcing Specialist to ensure procurement activities associated with releasing and scheduling of raw and packaging materials are in accordance with negotiated terms and conditions as required. The Plant Buyer will also administer the purchase order process from established contracts and programs. Additionally, the Plant Buyer will participate and contribute to continuous improvement projects and initiatives. Working cross functionally with transportation, warehousing, suppliers, manufacturing, and Quality, the Plant Buyer will resolve inbound purchased item challenges specific to production demand. This is a full-time, in-office position.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 3+ years’ previous procurement experience.
  • Proficient computer skills and an in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Previous procurement experience in a manufacturing plant environment.

Nice To Haves

  • An undergraduate or college degree, preferably in a supply chain or related field of study.
  • Previous experience in the plastics or packaging industry is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Executes site procurement activities in accordance with corporate and site policies and processes and ISO procedures.
  • Utilizes MRP to determine inventory levels for assigned purchased categories to ensure all requirements are met.
  • Manages, releases, and tracks purchase orders for negotiated and/or contract materials for plant production, service vendors, and other activities that may be necessary for plant-specific services.
  • Administers purchase order process, including document accuracy, specification compliance, and price verification.
  • Manages inbound shipments and delivery dates and expedites purchase orders as needed to accommodate production schedules.
  • Establishes effective, professional relationships with internal clients as well as vendors and suppliers.
  • Manages supplier performance levels and establish objectives for targeted improvement.
  • Accountable for correcting supplier related constraints toward the supply plan identified by Supply Planners and/or site material planners.
  • Accountable for ensuring all site procurement activities are in accordance with corporate and site policy and process requirements.
  • Accountable for material group-specific Return to Vendor process compliance.
  • Communicates projected material and component requirements to supply base.
  • Partners with Quality and Purchasing Managers to hold suppliers accountable for on-time delivery and quality standards.
  • Conducts product/market research and develops new supply sources for assigned categories to optimize quality and/or total cost.
