About The Position

Directs and coordinates activities of an aseptic tomato processing plant by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors. Manages Supervisors engaged in processing food products. Direct and coordinates activities concerned with dismantling, moving, installing, or repairing machines and equipment. Approves purchase orders for plant materials or products. Overall responsibility for plant operations and employees, including, but not limited to: Assess staffing levels and manage overtime expenses Understand and help implement production schedule Monitor productivity, yield and other key operational metrics and recommend and implement adjustments as needed Daily interaction with Field, QC, COO, Safety, HR, Warehouse, Sales and possibly customers. The Plant 1 Manager is a key member of the Food Defense and SQF Team. Plant 1 Manager will be the primary contact representative from Plant 1. Assist in the development and ensure the food safety plan is enforced with all employees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in engineering or food science preferred.
  • Ten years related experience and training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
  • Knowledge of Database software; Internet software; Inventory software; Manufacturing software; Order processing systems; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

Responsibilities

  • Manages Supervisors engaged in processing food products.
  • Direct and coordinates activities concerned with dismantling, moving, installing, or repairing machines and equipment.
  • Approves purchase orders for plant materials or products.
  • Assess staffing levels and manage overtime expenses.
  • Understand and help implement production schedule.
  • Monitor productivity, yield and other key operational metrics and recommend and implement adjustments as needed.
  • Daily interaction with Field, QC, COO, Safety, HR, Warehouse, Sales and possibly customers.
  • Assist in the development and ensure the food safety plan is enforced with all employees.
  • Manages 4 – 5 subordinate supervisors who supervise a staff of year-round employees in the Maintenance Department.
  • Manages seasonal leads, who in turn manage several hundred seasonal employees during the tomato processing season.
  • Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the plant.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include implementing safety measures, interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
