About The Position

As a Plans Examiner, you will play a critical role in supporting safe, high-quality development within the City of Pasco by reviewing complex commercial and residential construction plans for compliance with applicable building, fire, plumbing, mechanical, energy, and state-adopted codes. This position reviews plans for structural and non-structural integrity prior to permit issuance, provides code interpretation, and works closely with internal departments, contractors, architects, engineers, and the public throughout the permitting and construction process. The ideal candidate will have experience in plans examining, permitting, building inspection, and/or building construction, along with strong attention to detail, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to interpret and apply complex codes, ordinances, and regulations. This role requires sound judgment, clear communication, and the ability to collaborate with Planning, Public Works, Engineering, Building, and other internal and external partners to help resolve code-related questions and support timely project review.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Three (3) years of experience in plans examining, permitting, or building inspection.
  • One (1) year of experience in building construction.
  • ICC or similar certification as a Plans Examiner.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in local government.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or Architecture or closely related field.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Responsibilities
