About The Position

This is an entry-level technical and paraprofessional position within various divisions of the Planning Department. It requires the application of basic research, statistical, administrative, and organizational skills. The role involves preparing reports, maps, legislation, and other graphics. Responsibilities include preparing planning studies, supporting statistical summaries, drafting recommendations, completing legislation, finalizing documents, and reports to assist Planners and administrative staff. The position interacts with all divisions within the Department and work is subject to technical review. Performs duties of limited complexity independently.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 60 college credits and one (1) year private or public sector planning experience.
  • OR Equivalent combination of education and experience beyond a high school diploma or its equivalent and one (1) year of the required experience.
  • A Valid Driver's License from any state (Equivalent to a State of Florida Class E) may be utilized upon application, however prior to appointment a State of Florida Driver's License (Class E or higher) must be presented to the Department of Human Resources and must be maintained valid throughout employment.
  • Applicants must upload and submit attached copies of proof of education (60 college credits or associates degree or higher from an accredited college or university) and a copy of a valid Driver's License from any state.

  • Foreign diplomas/degrees must be submitted with a credential evaluation report from an approved credential evaluation agency.
  • If degree/diploma does not reflect the academic major on its face, transcripts indicating degree completion must be submitted.
  • To qualify under the equivalency clause, applicant must provide proof of education in one or more of the following applicable forms: High school diploma or its equivalent, or transcript showing at least 60 college credits, or Associate's degree or higher.
  • Completion of a Professional Certificate Program, including those issued upon finishing training programs or coursework, are not accepted as standalone documentation for meeting the minimum educational requirement.
  • Applicants must provide a valid email address in order to receive notification of eligibility.
  • If veteran's preference is being claimed, it must be indicated on the application form and proper documentation, including all forms DD-214 (Member 4) and the applicable FDVA- Veteran's Preference Certification Form(s) in accordance with rule 55A-7.013 - Documentation of Preference Claim, must be submitted with the employment application.
  • Applicants for classified positions who are City of Miami residents and new hires will receive preference in selection from interview ranking bands provided that any two (2) of the following documents are submitted with the employment application and again at time of interview: A Utility bill dated within 60 days of the date of submission, B. Valid Florida Driver License or State-issued I.D., C. Property Tax Statement dated within 1 year of the date of submission, D. Properly executed valid lease agreement, E. Homestead Exemption dated within 1 year of the date of submission, F. Motor Vehicle Registration dated within 90 days of the date of submission, G. Official school records or transcripts, dated within 90 days of the date of submission, H. W-2 (or 1099) Tax Form dated within 1 year of the date of submission.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in researching various plan studies and provides technical assistance.
  • Prepares drafts of recommendations and reports for review by Planners or designee.
  • Updates, organizes, retrieves, creates, prepares, and maintains maps, charts, tables, and other documents.
  • Researches, interprets, and analyzes statistical information for the Department.
  • Creates and maintains databases and/or spreadsheets to track the various programs for compliance.
  • Tracks amendments, legislation, covenants, permits, and conditions of approval to ensure compliance.
  • Assists in the processing of permits and applications, including receipt of fee payments, tracking, and routing of plans and other materials.
  • Provides technical assistance and information to staff and the public in the administration of specific planning programs, areas, or ordinances.
  • Processes address change requests.
  • May be assigned to any division within the Planning Department and participates in a variety of projects as needed.
  • Performs related work as required.
