About The Position

The Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) is seeking qualified individuals for the position of Planning Technician within the Climate Action, Planning and Development Services division. This role reports to the Manager of Development Planning and involves processing less complex development applications, coordinating statutory notices, conducting research and analysis, responding to public inquiries, and preparing reports for Council and committees. The position supports development planning processes in a vibrant destination resort community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in urban or regional planning or a related discipline (Urban design, Landscape Architecture or Geography)
  • 1-3 years of experience in a professional planning role
  • Ability to read maps and plans
  • Ability to review, analyze and make recommendations on development applications including development variance permit, delegated development permit, sign permit, and business licence
  • Strong ability to conduct research, compile data, analyze information and make recommendations
  • Proficient with Microsoft 365
  • Ability to learn new and changing technology
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to effectively manage several files and projects at once
  • Ability to exercise critical thinking
  • Ability to make sound recommendations through clearly articulated written and oral presentations
  • Ability to interact effectively, courteously, and professionally with the public, development planning applicants and other municipal staff
  • Commitment to promoting a diverse and equitable workplace
  • Commitment to contributing to a positive team environment
  • Valid BC class 5 driver’s license
  • Satisfactory driver’s abstract

Responsibilities
