About The Position

The Prince George’s County Planning Department of The Maryland National-Capital Park and Planning Commission is seeking a Planning Technician III to join their planning team. The Department provides land use planning for the physical development of Prince George’s County, Maryland. This role involves supporting the Prince George's County Planning Department and the Prince George's County Planning Board. The position is conveniently located in Largo, Maryland, near Metro and I-495.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED).
  • Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience with plan, permit, and development application review.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total two (4) years.
  • Highly organized work habits.
  • Detail-oriented and accurate.
  • Experience with record keeping, database management, and application processing in a regulatory environment.
  • Substantial analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with local zoning, urban design, and subdivision codes.
  • Microsoft Office Suite.
  • ArcGIS.

Responsibilities

  • Permit review for all types of residential, commercial, signage, and use and occupancies.
  • Planning assistance work.
  • Managing a specialized portion of the section’s planning and regulatory programs.
  • Referrals to the Planning Board.
  • Reviewing conditions of an approved development application, and triggers.
  • Reviewing permits and planning applications.
  • Identifying problems and changes needed for compliance.
  • Working with the general public, developers, and professionals to identify alternative methods for compliance.
  • Collecting, organizing, and analyzing planning related data.
  • Preparing graphics for reports and presentations.
  • Writing reports and referrals.
  • Developing and implementing procedures to improve program performance.
  • Performing advanced planning assistance work involving property specific research and instructional meetings with applicants, agents, and/or community planners.
  • Detailed reviews of application submission packages.
  • Communication of needs and/or deficiencies to applicants, agents, and plan reviewers.
  • Serving on the Alternative Compliance Committee.
  • Reviewing final plats of subdivision and inspection of recreational facilities for conformance with approved plans.
  • Planning, organizing, and prioritizing own work in the context of established standards.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned to cover in the absence of supervisor.
