About The Position

Under administrative direction, this role is responsible for performing administrative and supervisory work requiring extensive knowledge and ability in the field of Urban Planning. The position assists with the administration of planning studies and programs, focusing on maintaining existing programs and developing new, innovative planning programs to support the comprehensive development of the City. Responsibilities include the formulation, coordination, and research of specialized planning activities such as comprehensive planning, accessibility planning, transportation, land use, zoning, neighborhood and urban design, current planning, or data management. The role operates primarily in an office environment and exercises direct supervision over assigned staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Five (5) years of increasingly responsible urban planning experience.
  • Two (2) years supervisory or management experience.

  • Congress of New Urbanism (CNU).

Responsibilities

  • Develops planning programs for division.
  • Oversees the planning, preparation, and submission of division reports including the budget.
  • Arranges for public hearings.
  • Assists in preparation of reports, comprehensive plans, and recommendations to the Planning Commission, Zoning Commission, City Council and similar officials on planning matters.
  • Supervises, trains and evaluates assigned staff members.
  • Prepares written reports and presentations.
  • May act for the Assistant Director in their absence.
  • May monitor citywide ADA compliance.
  • May administer contracts from granting agencies.
  • May oversee the production of studies under agency contracts.
  • May develop grant proposals.
  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
