About The Position

HNTB is seeking a Planning Intern for Summer 2026 in their Chicago, IL office. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to meaningful infrastructure projects and build communities. For over a century, HNTB has delivered solutions for complex infrastructure projects. The intern will work under close supervision, assisting the Planning department with basic assignments in areas such as Transportation Planning, Land Use Planning, and Urban Mobility. This position is typically part-time, temporary, or co-op. Relocation and housing are not provided for this position.

Requirements

• Enrolled in a related undergraduate or graduate program

Nice To Haves

• ArcGIS experience
• Adobe Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, etc.) experience
• Microsoft Excel and/or Data Science (Python, R, etc.)
• Writing and communication skills
• AutoCAD and/or Microstation experience
• Strong interest in transit, transportation design, and urban planning

Responsibilities

• Assists project team members with various support tasks
• Conducts basic research and data collection
• Maintains records, collections and files related to specific projects
• Assist in the development of graphics, presentation materials and reports
• Performs other duties assigned
