Requirements

  • Valid Class "C" Texas driver's license
  • Good driving record
  • Bachelor's Degree or previous work experience in municipal government, planning, or closely related field (Planner)
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Architecture, Urban Planning, Public Administration or related field plus 3 years of relevant experience (Senior Planner)
  • Master's degree in Urban Planning or related field plus 1 year of relevant experience (Senior Planner - desired)
  • Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Architecture, Urban Planning, Public Administration or related field plus five years of relevant experience (Principal Planner)
  • Master's degree in Urban Planning or related field plus three years of relevant experience (Principal Planner)
  • AICP (American Institute of Certified Planners) Certification or be able to obtain within 12 months of hire date (Principal Planner)

Nice To Haves

  • Texas experience is a plus, but not required
  • Eligibility to take AICP is desired; AICP strongly preferred, but not required (Planner & Senior Planner)
  • Master's degree in Urban Planning or related field plus 1 year of relevant experience (Senior Planner - desired)
  • Master's degree in Urban Planning or related field plus three years of relevant experience (Principal Planner)

Responsibilities

  • Administering related zoning and development ordinances
  • Coordinating the development review process
  • Preparing plans, studies, property owner notifications, and presentations
  • Providing information and assistance to city departments, developers, builders and the general public
  • Acting as an experienced resource to others within the department (Senior Planner)
  • Performing and overseeing a wide range of development-related tasks (Principal Planner)
  • Managing the development process including related land use applications, site plans, plats, variance/waiver applications (Principal Planner)
  • Examining applications for compliance with established plans and all applicable regulations (Principal Planner)
  • Soliciting input from staff and other stakeholders through established meeting and hearing processes (Principal Planner)
  • Collaborating with department management to effectively lead, manage, work with and coordinate the recommendations of other departments, divisions, and groups, both internal and external, in the review of zoning and development applications, long-range plans, and special reports (Principal Planner)
