About The Position

Johnstown, Colorado, a growing municipality of approximately 22,000 residents, is seeking an experienced Planner III to join its Planning team. This role is crucial in shaping the future of the town, which is experiencing rapid development and managing diverse priorities including maintaining a small-town feel, fostering growth, building infrastructure, and addressing oil and gas interests. The department faces challenges related to implementing a new Comprehensive Plan, managing fast-paced development, and updating processes. The Planner III will perform a wide range of municipal planning and project management functions, including land use planning, research, code updates, administration of the development process, mentoring other planners, preparing staff reports and presentations, and other land use and development tasks. This is a high-energy, high-production environment requiring a candidate eager to learn, grow professionally, and contribute actively.

Requirements

  • Minimum of four years of experience in municipal planning or as a consultant performing land use/site planning.
  • AICP certification.
  • Previous development project review experience.
  • Master's degree in planning or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a wide variety of municipal planning and project management functions.
  • Conducts land use planning and research.
  • Updates codes.
  • Administers and manages the overall development process.
  • Mentors planners.
  • Prepares staff reports and supplemental materials.
  • Makes presentations.
