Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, City & Regional Planning, Public Administration, Landscape Architecture or a related field.
  • Two (2) to four (4) years of professional experience in planning, architectural plan review, site plan review, development review, or related work.
  • Knowledge of architectural plans, construction documents, zoning regulations, and land development processes.
  • Familiarity with GIS applications and planning-related software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and project management abilities.
  • Ability to interpret codes, ordinances, technical drawings, and development standards.
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to build positive relationships.
  • Valid Indiana driver's license (or ability to obtain).

Nice To Haves

  • AICP certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing architectural drawings, construction documents, and site plans for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with approved development plans.
  • Evaluating projects for consistency with the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO), City Code, Comprehensive Plan, and departmental standards.
  • Coordinating plan reviews with Building Safety, Planning & Zoning, Engineering, and other City departments.
  • Working directly with developers, contractors, architects, engineers, business owners, and residents throughout the development process.
  • Conducting construction site visits to monitor compliance and resolve issues during active projects.
  • Researching zoning regulations and preparing zoning compliance letters.
  • Managing development petitions from application through public meetings using multiple software platforms.
  • Preparing agendas, public notices, correspondence, and meeting materials for the Plan Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals.
  • Assisting with project presentations before City Council, Plan Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, and other public boards when needed.
  • Maintaining Planning Department website content and public information.
  • Serving as a resource by providing technical guidance regarding planning, land use, architecture, site design, transportation, and development regulations.
  • Supporting departmental initiatives and special projects as assigned.
