About The Position

The Planner II (Design Build - Process Management) is responsible for process engineering on new construction projects at Vancouver Shipyards. Under the direction of the Supervisor, Design Build – Process Management, the Planner II participates in all phases of new construction design projects from a process engineering perspective to improve productivity and remove waste including the development of assigned analysis and projects in the areas of ship design and shipbuilding, production engineering, build strategy development, pre-production process development. This position is required to be fully on-site at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.

Requirements

  • 2 to 4 years’ experience in planning, shipbuilding, process engineering or related trade experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Reliability Status security clearance.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Knowledge of shipbuilding operations with a detailed understanding of the relationship between planning, procurement, design and production.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities in a changing, deadline driven environment.
  • Strong judgement, reasoning, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Demonstrated customer service focus and ability to develop and maintain relationships that foster trust.
  • Demonstrated initiative, creativity and integrity.
  • Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills.

Nice To Haves

  • A bachelor’s degree in a technical field of study is preferred. Trades Certificate combined with sufficient employment experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and performs analysis in support of program pre-production strategy development including: Engineering and Procurement Strategy and Schedules, Pre-Production Process, PBOM creation and associated tasks and activities and supports development of ship construction schedules.
  • Plans and performs process improvements in pre-production areas.
  • Plans and performs pre-production process analysis to develop, implement, and refine new and existing production processes.
  • Monitors industry and supplier developments to identify and transfer to VSY industry best practice.
  • Provides mentoring and technical guidance to subordinate engineers in Process Engineering and/or related departments.
  • Builds team capability by training and developing others in order to ensure future team effectiveness.
