About The Position

Researches, collaborates with the community, and prepares plans and guidelines for improving the city's physical, social, cultural, and economic environment in order to promote optimum utilization of land and urban design. Gathers, analyzes, and interprets social, economic, and engineering data for planning and community development programs; creates maps and reports for planning purposes. Establishes reports and plans regarding urban and community issues; prepares cases for the Plan Board, Board of Zoning Appeals and Landmarks Commission. Incumbent works independently or as a team member with a wide variety of neighborhood and community groups, City staff and agencies. Must have a working knowledge of Geographic Information Systems; use of ESRI products is desired.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a college approved by the Planning Accreditation Board (PAB); OR Bachelor's degree in Planning, Architecture, Civil Engineering, Geography, Historic Preservation, or a closely related field AND one year of professional experience with a planning, zoning, development, preservation, architectural or engineering agency or firm.
  • Degree must be from a college or university that is accredited by the U.S. Department of Education through the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Higher Learning Commission or equivalent region.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.
  • Working knowledge of Geographic Information Systems.
  • Applications must specifically address each of the minimum qualifications, directly showing how each is met.
  • Background investigation and evidence of Employment Authorization and Identity is required prior to employment.
  • Must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position, including current city employees seeking transfer, promotion, demotion, etc. into a classified position.
  • Passing a job-related medical examination including drug screen.
  • Passing a nicotine screening.
  • Must remain tobacco and nicotine free as a condition of continued employment (does not apply to current City employees).
