About The Position

Pleasant View City is searching for a full-time Planner I - Planner II to shape the future of the city by balancing growth, preserving community character, and influencing meaningful projects. This role involves planning, zoning, and development review, including processing land-use applications, researching planning policies, collaborating with developers and stakeholders, preparing reports and analyses, and presenting findings to the Planning Commission and City Council. The Planner will guide thoughtful development and serve as a resource for city leadership and residents.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, Geography, Political Science, or a closely related field (for Planner I)
  • Master's Degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, Geography, Political Science, or a closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience (for Planner II)
  • Three to six (3-6) years of experience in a comparable position with a city, county, municipal organization, or similar office setting (for Planner I)
  • Six (6+) years of experience in a comparable city or county planning position (for Planner II)
  • Experience in planning and zoning, public administration, or a closely related field
  • Experience in a municipal or professional office setting
  • Valid driver's license
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening.

Nice To Haves

  • AICP Certification is highly desired

Responsibilities

  • Receiving and processing land-use applications and renewal requests.
  • Researching planning policies, development concepts, and zoning issues.
  • Collaborating with developers, city departments, and community stakeholders during Development Review Committee meetings.
  • Preparing detailed reports, analyses, and recommendations regarding zoning applications, ordinance updates, and development code amendments.
  • Presenting findings to the Planning Commission and City Council.
  • Guiding thoughtful development.
  • Serving as a trusted resource for city leadership and residents.
