About The Position

Performs professional work in urban planning, focusing on program and project planning activities that impact affordable housing and community development. This includes collecting and analyzing data, and formulating and recommending plans and programs relevant to housing conditions and needs. Responsibilities involve planning and implementing the City’s housing policy and development initiatives, developing policies and plans, evaluating development proposals and funding requests, soliciting community input, and providing development oversight. The role also includes preparing Environmental Reviews and State and Federal mandated performance evaluations of the City’s housing programs and activities. Work is performed under the direction of the Housing Initiative Manager and is reviewed through conferences, reports submitted, and results obtained.

Requirements

  • Planner I: Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration, Urban Planning, Architecture, or related field and six (6) months of experience in urban planning or related area required
  • Planner II: Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration, Urban Planning, Architecture, or related field and two (2) years of urban planning or related experience required
  • Planner III: Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration, Urban Planning, Architecture, or related field and four (4) years of urban planning or related experience required
  • Valid Florida Driver's License required within 30 days of hire
  • Bachelor’s Degree in any field is acceptable with AICP certification (for Planner III)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in housing and grant management preferred
  • Master’s Degree in related field desired (Planner I)
  • Master’s Degree in related field and six (6) of months related experience desired (Planner II)
  • Master’s Degree in related field and two (2) years of urban planning or related experience desired (Planner III)
  • Experience with CAD, GIS, SketchUp, Photoshop, Illustrator, or comparable design software preferred
  • AIA, ASLA, or AICP Certification preferred (Planner III)
