A result driven highly organized and detail-oriented Planner / Supply Chain Buyer to support aerospace and defense manufacturing operations focused on legacy aircraft programs. This dual-role position is responsible for production planning, material scheduling, procurement, supplier coordination, and inventory management for sheet metal, soft goods, thermoformed, and machined components. The ideal candidate will have experience operating in a regulated aerospace environment, managing long lead-time materials, supporting low-volume/high-mix manufacturing, and ensuring on-time delivery to customer requirements while maintaining compliance with aerospace quality standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Business, Operations Management, Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • 3 – 7 years of experience in aerospace manufacturing planning, purchasing, or supply chain management.
  • Experience supporting aerospace and defense programs, preferably legacy aircraft platforms.
  • Strong understanding of: a) Sheet metal fabrication b) Soft goods manufacturing c) Thermoforming processes d) Precision machined components
  • Experience using ERP/MRP systems in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of aerospace quality standards including AS9100 and configuration control practices.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings, bills of material (BOMs), and technical specifications.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and standard business software applications.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with military and defense contracts.
  • Familiarity with legacy aircraft sustainment and obsolescence management.
  • APICS/ASCM certification (CPIM or CSCP) preferred.
  • Experience working with DCMA, GSI, LSI and other defense contracts requirements.
  • Knowledge of long lead-time procurement strategies and supplier risk mitigation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain production schedules to support customer delivery commitments and internal manufacturing capacity.
  • Plan and release work orders for sheet metal fabrication, soft goods assembly, thermoforming, and machined part production.
  • Monitor material availability, labor capacity, tooling constraints, and production priorities.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing, engineering, quality, and program management to resolve schedule conflicts and production issues.
  • Analyze demand forecasts, backlog, and customer orders to establish planning priorities.
  • Track production performance metrics including on-time delivery, work-in-process (WIP), and schedule adherence.
  • Support Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), revision updates, and configuration control requirements associated with legacy aircraft programs.
  • Maintain ERP/MRP system data accuracy including BOMs, routings, lead times, and inventory parameters.
  • Procure raw materials, hardware, outside processing services, and finished components in support of aerospace manufacturing operations.
  • Manage supplier relationships for aerospace-qualified suppliers supporting legacy aircraft requirements.
  • Issue RFQs, evaluate quotations, negotiate pricing and lead times, and generate purchase orders.
  • Monitor supplier performance related to quality, delivery, responsiveness, and cost.
  • Expedite critical shortages and manage recovery plans for late deliveries or supply disruptions.
  • Coordinate outside services including heat treat, plating, painting, and special processing.
  • Ensure purchased materials and services comply with customer specifications, FAR/DFARS requirements, and AS9100 standards.
  • Support supplier corrective actions and collaborate with Quality on supplier-related nonconformances.
  • Maintain inventory levels to balance production continuity and inventory carrying costs.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings, supplier consolidation, and lead-time reduction.
  • Liaise with procurement, supply chain, engineering, and maintenance teams to align production needs.
  • Support new product introductions by ensuring seamless production integration.
  • Drive efficiency improvements through technology, automation, and best practices
