About The Position

As a Yates A20 Planer Operator, you are expected to arrive at DiPrizio ready to work by your assigned start time. When an extensive setup is involved, you must be prepared to start earlier than 5:30 AM to ensure the Yates A20 Planer is fully set up and ready for production to begin at 6:00 AM. This role involves efficient and accurate machine setups, adherence to safety protocols, maintaining quality and productivity, and effective communication within the team.

Requirements

  • Punctuality and readiness to work by assigned start time.
  • Ability to arrive earlier than 5:30 AM when extensive setups are required.
  • Proficiency in completing machine setups efficiently and accurately.
  • Experience with knife installation, grinding, profile changes, feed roll and pressure bar adjustments.
  • Skill in using proper measuring tools and gauges.
  • Strict adherence to lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.
  • Ability to maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Knowledge of ensuring guards and safety devices are properly installed and functional.
  • Ability to perform quality control checks on the first piece after setup.
  • Capability to monitor the planer during operation and make timely adjustments.
  • Proactive approach to addressing issues and minimizing downtime.
  • Effective communication skills to provide updates and request assistance.

Responsibilities

  • Arrive at the planer area by 5:30 AM on normal days for pre-shift inspections and safety checks.
  • Arrive 30 to 60 minutes earlier than 5:30 AM on days requiring extensive setups (new patterns, major knife changes, multiple profile adjustments, head alignments, etc.) as directed by supervision.
  • Complete all machine setups efficiently and accurately, including knife installation, grinding, profile changes, feed roll and pressure bar adjustments.
  • Use proper measuring tools and gauges to verify all dimensions and profiles before releasing the planer for production.
  • Ensure the machine is fully tested and running good material by 6:00 AM sharp.
  • Strictly follow all lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures during setup and maintenance activities.
  • Keep the work area clean and organized.
  • Ensure all guards and safety devices are properly installed and functional before starting the machine.
  • Run the first piece after setup through quality control and confirm it meets all specifications before beginning full production.
  • Continuously monitor the planer during operation and make timely adjustments to maintain quality and achieve target feed speeds.
  • Minimize downtime by proactively addressing issues and communicating needs to supervision.
  • Coordinate with Supervisor.
  • Provide clear and timely updates on setup progress and any potential delays.
  • Communicate when assistance is required from Maintenance, Operator in training and/or backup Operator.
