We are currently seeking a talented individual to become a Placing Judge. An individual could be successful if they possess the following.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must be able to read, write legibly, understand and speak English.
  • Must be able to work around horses.
  • Ability to interact professionally with other racing officials.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Punctual attendance required.
  • Ability to work required overtime.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain a calm, professional and friendly demeanor in all situations.
  • Ability to handle several tasks at the same time.
  • Ability to work at a fast pace in often crowded/noisy environment.
  • Ability to work weekends, evenings and holidays.
  • Ability to stand, sit or walk for periods of time and work in inclement weather when necessary.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to push, pull, reach, bend, twist, stoop and kneel.
  • Requires frequent wrist and hand use.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least 1 year experience as a Placing Judge required.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents in English, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to read and communicate verbally in English.
  • Written communication skills in in English may also be required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an Arkansas Racing License.

Responsibilities

  • Determine the finish order of the race.
  • Calls the running order of the first four horses during the race.
  • Operates the photo finish computer and camera in order to determine the order of finish.
  • Operates tote board equipment to properly display order of finish on the tote board.
  • Makes the races official when instructed by the racing steward.
  • Contacts other racing officials with the order of finish once the race is official.
  • Ability to work required overtime.
  • Regular punctual attendance required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
