About The Position

The Placement Transporter is primarily responsible for the safe and timely transportation of animals from ACC to our New Hope partners throughout New York State and the surrounding areas. This position requires a valid driver’s license in good standing and the ability to drive a large van. When not conducting transports, the Placement Transporter will help support other placement functions including but not limited to supporting adoption efforts in shelter and at weekend mobile events as needed, assisting New Hope staff with field placement efforts, and helping to load and unload animals as they arrive and depart from ACC.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• A valid driver’s license in good standing that has been held for at least one year.
• Treat animals and people with respect and employ humane handling techniques whenever possible.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.

Nice To Haves

• Previous professional driving experience is preferred along with animal handling experience.
• The ability to excel in a fast-paced, often high stress environment.
• Efficient and punctual with a strong attention to detail.
• Previous experience with animal handling is preferred as this position will be handling animals of a variety of temperaments, sizes, and species.
• Working knowledge of the NYS highway system and main transportation routes in and out of NYC.

Responsibilities

• Ensure that animals are provided with a comfortable, safe transport between locations, in a clean, secure vehicle and always adhering to best practices for companion animal transports.
• Box up and Load/unload animals while using fear free techniques.
• Complete daily transports for all animals placed within ACC’s transport range. Including but not limited to, communicating with the receiver, ensuring that all paperwork and medication arrives with the animals, and communicating any issues that may arise on the trip back to ACC.
• Map out the most optimal routes for each daily trip to maximize efficiency.
• Complete emergency local transports on an as need and as available basis.
• Oversee routine maintenance of the transport van which may include bringing the van to and from scheduled appointments. As well as cleaning out the van’s kennels at the completion of your shift.
• Attend mobile events on the weekend and drive the Mobile Adoptions Center.
• Support overall placement efforts in shelter adoptions and assisting the New Hope department as needed.
• Act as an ambassador for the organization in the community.
• Respond to email and phone calls communicating effectively with the New Hope staff, Field staff, as well as various supervisors throughout the day.
• Be able to keep an organized route sheet throughout the day.
• Complete other duties as assigned by supervisor.
• Fear Free certification required within 30 days of hire.
