About The Position

The Piping Field Engineer reports to the Lead Piping Field Engineer/Project Field Engineer and is responsible for the technical oversight of all Piping activities in his area. The selected applicant shall provide technical direction the FE group, as well as, to the direct hire and subcontractor work force as well as supervision. This role is part of the Thacker Pass Project, which is the largest known lithium resource in the United States. Once complete, the mine and processing facilities will produce more lithium carbonate than any other facility in the United States by far — enough to power 1 million electric vehicles per year. As the EPCM contractor for Lithium Americas, Bechtel is responsible for managing and integrating the efforts of a team contractors engineering and building the facility. They are also managing procurement of about $1 Billion in goods and services. Earth work began in 2023 and design and procurement of long-lead equipment is underway. The project is located in the high desert and wide-open spaces of north-central Nevada about 25 miles from the Oregon border, 1 hour northwest of Winnemucca, Nevada and 3 hours northeast of Reno. Planned with sustainability and the environment in mind, the facility will use its excess process heat to generate electricity and will recycle process water up to seven times. Once the second phase of the project is complete, Thacker Pass will produce more than 16 times the current U.S. output of lithium. Requirements

  • Experience with construction in all areas of piping installation.
  • University/BS degree in Engineering with 10-13 years field piping engineering experience is desired, or 14-17 years of relevant experience
  • Experience with Bechtel direct hire craft preferred
  • Contract management experience
  • Understanding of applicable Bechtel work processes including Standard Work Process Procedures is preferred
  • Familiarity with Bechtel Standard Applications (BSAPs) including ACONEX, TEAMWorks, Bechtel Productivity System, PTR, eSub and other automation tools which are used on Bechtel projects is an asset.
  • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Working knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving ability
  • Knowledge of multiple technical engineering disciplines relating to the construction of industrial projects.
  • Thorough knowledge of construction activities as they relate to engineering disciplines, cost and scheduling, and contract administration.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the application and requirements of the Project Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) Handbook and the Bechtel Core Processes as they relate to area of responsibility.
  • Knowledge of project-specific environmental compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of Bechtel's "Zero Accidents" safety program.
  • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet and database applications in accordance with current Bechtel Standard Application Program (BSAP) standards.
  • Knowledge of current industry design standards.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with supervision the work schedule and any material deliveries required
  • Complete training requirements assigned.
  • Preparation of pipe installation work packages
  • Inspection of field installations and completion of associated documentation.
  • Responsible for quantity take-off, control, reporting and forecasting for all piping quantities.
  • Prepare field change documentation and as-built documentation as required.
  • Interface with engineering office to resolve design and constructability issue.
  • Assist superintendents and subcontractors in constructability and quality issues.
  • Work with the suppliers to ensure compliance with project drawings and specifications.
  • Prepare material requisitions, coordinate, and review vendor drawings.
  • Material receipt inspections as required.
  • Reviews specifications, inspection reports, delivery schedules, instruction manuals, and technical data.
  • Assist with preparation of construction estimates.
  • Recommend design or installation improvements to improve safety on the project
