About The Position

The Hatch Metals & Mining group is seeking a Piping Engineer with experience or interest in High Pressure Metallurgy. Reporting to the High Pressure Metallurgy Lead Piping Engineer, you will contribute to the design and delivery of complex projects, supporting both local and global initiatives from our Mississauga Head Office.

Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Approximately 4–10 years of relevant experience in piping or mechanical design within industrial or process environments
  • Working knowledge of applicable design codes and standards (e.g., ASME, piping codes, pressure vessels, heat exchangers)
  • Experience supporting or leading engineering deliverables across project phases
  • Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals applied to complex projects
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating within multidisciplinary teams
  • Solid problem-solving skills with a practical, solution-oriented approach
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to interface with stakeholders at various levels
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Adaptable and comfortable working in a dynamic, project-driven environment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with metallurgical or process plant equipment and piping systems is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the delivery of multi-disciplinary engineering projects, including those involving proprietary high-pressure and high-temperature autoclave technologies for extraction of copper, gold, nickel, alumina, and other metals
  • Prepare and review design calculations, technical specifications, and documentation for piping systems and associated mechanical equipment
  • Perform piping and equipment sizing, hydraulic analysis, and develop system design inputs for drawings and datasheets
  • Lead or support equipment and piping design reviews, including plant layout development
  • Evaluate process alternatives and support equipment/technology selection studies
  • Participate in process hazard reviews (HAZID / HAZOP) and contribute to safe design practices
  • Provide input into capital and operating cost estimates
  • Interface with clients, vendors, and project teams to support delivery and resolve technical issues
  • Provide technical guidance and coordinate work with designers and junior team members, as required
  • Perform hydraulic modeling of piping systems using tools such as AFT Fathom, Impulse, and Arrow for incompressible, viscous, and compressible fluids
  • Develop and review Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
  • Specify and design piping systems and inline components, including pumps, valves (manual and automated), pressure relief systems, and piping stress considerations
