About The Position

Provide on-site piping design support for Capital Projects, Maintenance, and Operations by developing engineering design packages, piping layouts, and construction deliverables in accordance with site engineering standards and project requirements. Responsibilities include creating and maintaining 2D and 3D piping designs using CADWorx, maintaining piping specifications within the CADWorx application, performing field investigations, participating in site walkdowns, and utilizing laser scan data to develop accurate as-built models and engineering deliverables. The Piping Designer works closely with project engineers, operations, maintenance, and construction personnel to develop design solutions, support project scope development, and prepare construction-ready drawing packages.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology or Computer-Aided Drafting is required.
  • 4+ years of relevant industrial experience in mechanical/piping drafting and design.
  • Knowledge and application of piping materials.
  • Design of less complex process and utility piping systems.
  • Knowledge and application of piping supports and restraints.
  • Flexibility analysis of piping system.
  • Knowledge of manual valve sizing, use and application
  • Drafting of P&ID’s and GA’s.
  • Design of piping limited specific equipment and inline instrumentation arrangements such as pump suctions and discharges, tanks, control valve stations, etc
  • Familiarity with specifications and installation details of construction bulk materials and equipment.
  • Ability to create accurate mechanical/piping installation documents from the information found on vendor equipment drawings.
  • Knowledge and understanding of work flow/information flow between disciplines.
  • Knowledge and understanding of schedule constraints and information requirements for the production of all mechanical/piping deliverables.
  • Ability to accurately estimate completion of assigned tasks.
  • Knowledge and application of company engineering design and CAD drafting standards.
  • Working knowledge of 2D AutoCAD and Microstation.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Good presentation skills.
  • Virtual team skills and cross divisional relationships continue to develop, and providing interoffice execution support under general supervision.
  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Develop piping design packages from conceptual development through construction and as-built documentation.
  • Create and revise piping drawings including plot plans, piping plans, isometrics, piping details, tie-in packages, and P&ID markups.
  • Develop and maintain 3D CADWorx models utilizing field measurements and laser scan data.
  • Maintain and update CADWorx piping specifications, catalogs, and related design databases.
  • Conduct field walkdowns and site surveys to verify existing conditions and support design development.
  • Support project scope development, cost estimates, and engineering studies.
  • Coordinate with civil, mechanical, structural, instrumentation, electrical, and process engineering disciplines.
  • Generate material take-offs and support procurement and construction activities.
  • Ensure designs comply with CPChem standards, applicable codes, site specifications, and Management of Change (MOC) requirements.
  • Support multiple concurrent capital, maintenance, reliability, and operational improvement projects.
