About The Position

With minimal supervision, performs moderately difficult to difficult drafting and design assignments requiring advanced drafting and/or fundamental design techniques in accordance with company and industry standards and codes. Detailed instructions are provided by the immediate supervisor for assignments that introduce basic design concepts. This is a transitional position in which the incumbent is expected to develop a working knowledge of fundamental design concepts while also performing senior-level drafting assignments. The role involves preparing engineering and construction drawings for a complete project phase, often with minimal information and rough sketches, and carrying out discipline design tasks that apply fundamental engineering concepts and mathematical formulas. Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent with vocational-technical training in basic drafting technology and typically at least five years of related experience or equivalent working knowledge/experience; alternatively, a two-year degree in drafting/design technology and three years of related experience.
Proficiency using CADD equipment for a variety of assignments.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to present information and respond to questions from clients, managers, designers, and engineers.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts including proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume, and to apply basic algebra and geometry.
Ability to meet the physical requirements of occasional field trips, including standing, walking, reaching, climbing, balancing, and lifting up to 25 pounds.

Responsibilities

Prepare moderately difficult to difficult engineering and construction drawings for a complete phase of a project using manual and computer-assisted drafting/design techniques.
Perform discipline design tasks requiring the application of fundamental engineering concepts and mathematical formulas.
Determine material needs and perform calculations using accepted formulas and references, as applicable.
Develop and detail minor design elements not clearly defined in layouts or sketches.
Review manufacturers’ or fabricators’ prints for conformance with contract specifications.
Perform routine checking and verification tasks.
Support field assignments as required.
