About The Position

The primary purpose of this Specialist is to inspect, support, maintain, and assist operating, including providing emergency response for, the 32mi Treated Effluent line serving MPC’s Plant Ratcliffe. Additionally, from time to time, Specialist is expected to inspect, support, maintain, and assist operating natural gas and CO2 pipeline facilities into and at MPC’s Plant Ratcliffe and other power generation plants. Primary responsibilities include the installation, maintenance, and ongoing support of the electronic, mechanical, and pneumatic controls equipment serving as pressure control for the electric generating sites. Additional responsibilities include ROW surveys, line locating and marking, leak surveys, atmospheric corrosion monitoring, cathodic protection monitoring, valves and overpressure protection inspection and maintenance, contractor oversight, odorant monitoring, and support of electronic measurement and measurement control equipment. Call outs for emergencies due to line breaks, equipment malfunction, or any other failure is expected at all times for at least one of two Specialist whose prime functions serve Plant Ratcliffe. This position will primarily support electric generation sites in Kemper County, MS, Lauderdale County, MS and Greene County, AL.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Line locating experience required
  • Strong written and oral communications and interpersonal skills are essential
  • Ability to utilize computer programs, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint along with a basic knowledge of GIS-based management systems (e.g. FlowGIS)
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of pressure control technologies and industry best practices
  • Working knowledge CFR 192 requirments for pipeline compliance
  • Understanding of communications / systems networking
  • Understanding of cathodic protection systems
  • Must be able to wear a harness and be work within enclosed spaces with potential SCBAs.

Nice To Haves

  • Pneumatic pressure control experience preferred
  • Natural gas facilities maintenance experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Inspection, maintenance, and tuning of pneumatic & electric pressure control systems
  • Rebuilding of internal parts in pressure control equipment, i.e. globe valves, ball valves, and unloading valves
  • Complete work reports in GIS based work management system
  • Perform “odorant concentration tests” to ensure odorant density within pipeline systems
  • Navigate pipeline right-of-ways to perform leak surveys and pipeline patrols
  • Change elements in coalescing filters during plant outages
  • Performs cathodic protection readings occasionally
  • Most work performed alongside other technicians, but occasional lone work is required
  • No reporting to daily office, work will be performed at either a pipeline or power plant location
  • Will be subject to PHMSA Part 199 drug and alcohol program
  • Will be subject to FMCSA drug and alcohol program
