About The Position

The Pipeline Integrity / In-line Inspection Analyst supports the execution, continuous improvement, and technical development of the Kinder Morgan Assessment Protocol (KMAP) for identifying, classifying, and assessing seam-related crack-like anomalies, mechanical damage, and other potentially injurious indications found in in-line inspection (ILI) data. The role serves as a subject matter expert in ILI signal interpretation, anomaly characterization, and technical assessment. It reviews ILI signal data, applies established classification methods, incorporates historical and field validation information, and develops technically defensible classifications and recommendations to inform integrity management decisions. The analyst works with Pipeline Integrity Engineers and Analysts, ILI service providers, NDE specialists, field personnel, and other subject matter experts to resolve complex classifications, support excavation selection and validation, and improve assessment accuracy. The position contributes to KMAP methodology improvements using validation feedback, lessons learned, and industry best practices. Work is primarily office-based and involves extended computer work reviewing large or complex ILI datasets. Occasional travel and work outside normal business hours may be required.

  • Accountability, initiative, and a results-oriented approach in support of group and company objectives.
  • Ability to identify process, procedure, and system improvements and contribute to initiatives that enhance regulatory compliance, program effectiveness, and operational efficiency.
  • Sound technical judgment when evaluating incomplete, uncertain, or conflicting information.
  • Ability to deliver accurate and timely work in accordance with applicable regulations, standards, policies, procedures, assessment criteria, and quality requirements.
  • Ability to participate constructively in technical peer reviews, consider alternative interpretations, and address review comments appropriately.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple assignments and adapt to changing circumstances, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Ability to collaborate with management, peers, and stakeholders, receive constructive feedback, and implement appropriate improvements.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong focus on safe work practices and active participation in the safety program.
  • Regular, dependable attendance and a high level of performance.
  • Valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, Mathematics, Data Analytics, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline; applicable industry experience and education may be considered equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Five or more years of experience reviewing and interpreting ILI signal data to identify and classify anomalies.
  • Experience evaluating service provider classifications and the technical basis for reported pipeline integrity threats.
  • ILI Personnel Qualification (ILI-PQ) Level II.
  • Knowledge of pipeline integrity threats and the capabilities, limitations, performance specifications, and uncertainties of ILI and NDE technologies used to identify and characterize those threats.
  • Experience with run-to-run comparisons, signal matching, anomaly correlation, corrosion growth analysis, or other anomaly growth evaluations.
  • Familiarity with applicable PHMSA pipeline safety and integrity management requirements under 49 CFR Parts 192 and 195.
  • Working knowledge of API Standard 1163 and ILI performance validation principles.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other tools used to organize, analyze, and present technical data.
  • Strong technical writing skills and ability to document complex technical evidence, assumptions, uncertainties, conclusions, and recommendations clearly.
  • High attention to detail and ability to identify subtle patterns, inconsistencies, or anomalous responses in large datasets.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Review ILI signal data and supporting inspection information to identify, evaluate, and classify indications according to KMAP procedures and assessment methodologies.
  • Document signal reviews, supporting evidence, assessment conclusions, and recommendations clearly and completely.
  • Review historical ILI data, prior assessments, pipeline information, and validation results to support anomaly characterization, including run-to-run comparisons and anomaly correlation where applicable.
  • Evaluate KMAP assessment outcomes and validation results to identify trends, lessons learned, and opportunities to improve procedures, criteria, methodologies, and program effectiveness.
  • Identify and communicate emerging signal patterns or potentially systemic integrity concerns that may warrant further technical evaluation or integrity action.
  • Perform corrosion growth analyses, anomaly growth evaluations, data trending, and other technical analyses as applicable.
  • Participate in technical peer reviews to promote accurate, consistent, high-quality assessments.
  • Support development and continuous improvement of KMAP procedures, work instructions, decision criteria, technical guidance, and supporting documentation.
  • Communicate conclusions and recommendations through technical reports, assessment summaries, presentations, and other appropriate formats.
  • Collaborate with Pipeline Integrity Engineers and Analysts, ILI service providers, NDE specialists, field personnel, and other experts to resolve complex classifications and support excavation selection and validation.
