About The Position

Wood is recruiting for a Pipeline Engineering Specialist to join their Onshore Team within the Projects Business. This role focuses on pipeline engineering and design, analysis, and studies. The position requires a deep understanding of industry standards, engineering/design practices, advanced analytical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, embodying the characteristics of a subject matter expert (SME). The role is that of a technical expert/specialist who develops and evaluates plans and criteria for various projects and services executed by others. They will assess the feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering designs, products, equipment, and other engineering deliverables. This specialist is recognized as a technical expert within the department or division, possessing thorough knowledge of general principles and theories in their professional field and contributing significantly to solving applied problems. They will provide professional direction and guidance on complex assignments or projects and offer guidance to business unit and divisional management. The role involves solving complex non-recurring problems by formulating and testing hypotheses based on limited evidence or precedent, exercising seasoned business judgment in developing innovative business solutions. They will provide consultative direction to other functional areas or groups and across the organization, recognized as an authority within the company. The position exercises technical authority over groups of professional personnel and generally directs highly qualified professionals engaged in complex engineering deliverables, applications, and projects. They will provide technical reviews for complex projects within their area of expertise. This role represents the most technically competent level of engineer within a discipline, serving as a senior technical specialist responsible for the efficient design and technical execution of the project or service line. Involvement includes providing engineering support to the Business Development group and project teams. Applicants must be authorized to work lawfully in the US without sponsorship from Wood, now or in the future.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (BSME is preferred)
  • 20+ years in Oil & gas, Petrochemical and/or Energy
  • Strong interpersonal communication and analytical skills
  • Excellent knowledge of pipeline design software applications and use
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc..)
  • Extensive experience and accomplishments resulting in recognition as a technical expert in a particular field.
  • Experience in a consulting environment
  • Demonstrable balance of industrial and management experience at relevant level and position
  • Good knowledge of the relevant Piping & Plant Layout, piping codes and standards like ASME, API, etc.
  • Extensive knowledge of industry standards and specifications, engineering and construction practices
  • Knowledgeable and broad experience with industry standard analysis software as well as computational analysis
  • Possesses expert knowledge in more than one specialized field and broad knowledge of several related disciplines in the function.
  • Advanced knowledge of regulatory framework and associated legislation.
  • Demonstrate current knowledge with industry and technology development
  • Intellectually capable, can substantiate the ability to apply theory in a practical context
  • Capable use of discipline software and lead and direct development of company tools and processes

  • Reviews the Client’s technical documentation and requirements
  • Strong technical writing skills, prepare peer review, design, performance, or other reports for projects or for internal use
  • Understand the project design basis and ability to develop a design basis for pipelines
  • Performs calculations of pipeline networks
  • Interdisciplinary coordination with other service lines within the Company to ensure appropriate design inputs are incorporated to meet scope requirements
  • Checks documents issued by other Pipeline Engineers and also inter-discipline checking.
  • Participate and provide input in risk management, value engineering and constructability work scopes
  • Provide mentorship, training and guidance for team members as well as awareness and knowledge sharing to the wider service line.

  • Hands-on experience is 3D Software is an advantage (AVEVA E3D, Navisworks, etc..)

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review proposals for scopes of work.
  • Creation of proposals including cost estimates.
  • Liaison and coordination with the P&L holders throughout proposal development.
  • Communicate and co-operate with external stakeholders including: industry bodies, academia, vendors.
  • Client interface (as appropriate and requested), market intelligence, relevant conferences, and business development.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers and can influence their decisions.
  • Continuous development, promotion of, and adherence to, the discipline specific procedures and work orders and providing feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Defines scope of work, prepares basis of designs and allocates and direct staff.
  • Directs work assignments, scheduling, and reviews of work in progress.
  • Manage a portfolio of small projects, with responsibility for cost, schedule, resource allocation and risk.
  • Conduct detailed pipeline analysis using industry-standard software or in-house developed calculations to evaluate pipeline designs and piping systems under various cases.
  • Establish design cases where not specified in scopes of work.
  • Anticipates potential problems, solves complex problems through creative thinking and creative use of internal and external resources both inside and outside of discipline expertise.
  • Acts to prevent conditions from getting out of hand or to resolve and issues as they see fit and reports immediately.
  • Drive continuous improvement to develop tools and methodologies to improve accuracy, efficiency and competitiveness of the various studies and services offered by the team.
  • Act as a knowledge center on pipeline design and analysis and ensure knowledge is documented and shared across the wider service line.
  • Develop and/or review pipeline studies and provide recommendations for modifications and improvements.
  • Solves problems requiring application of research data in own and allied professional disciplines; exercises mature business judgment in devising practical, economical solutions.
  • Establishes the need for investigation and research and participates in the development of long-range plans and project goals.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and other team members.
  • Participate in assurance activities, design or peer reviews, project meetings, and client consultations to provide expert insights and recommendations.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of best practices, standards, and procedures for pipe stress analysis and engineering.
  • Travel to customer sites, offices and facilities to engage in business development activities, knowledge sharing sessions and project related meetings.
  • Contributes to business development through regular engagement, relationship building and delivery to clients, as well as identifying and pursuing opportunities to expand scope of work for Wood.
  • Stay updated on the latest industry trends, technologies, and software developments to ensure continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Represents the company as a thought-leader at conferences and other public events.
  • Provides coaching and mentoring for less experienced staff, supports the development and retention of motivated and competent people.
  • Approves and monitors timesheets, expenses and reports on project performance, as appropriate.
