About The Position

Nscale is seeking a Pipeline Engineer / Manager to lead natural gas pipeline engineering, design oversight, and construction support for the Monarch Compute Campus microgrid. This role involves leading the in-house pipeline engineering function, managing relationships with midstream partners and EPC contractors, and ensuring the reliable and safe delivery of natural gas. This is a senior individual contributor/lead role with the potential to grow a team as the company scales.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in natural gas pipeline engineering, construction, or operations.
  • PE license (Mechanical or Chemical) strongly preferred.
  • Deep working knowledge of 49 CFR 192, ASME B31.8, API standards, and PHMSA enforcement practice.
  • Background in gathering, transmission, or large industrial fuel gas systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage EPC contractors and outside engineering on aggressive schedules.
  • Houston-based with willingness to travel to Mason County, WV as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Appalachian Basin infrastructure (Marcellus / Utica, TETCO, Columbia, Rover, REX).

Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering oversight of gas supply pipelines, laterals, regulator stations, and on-site fuel gas distribution.
  • Review and approve design deliverables from EPC partners and consultants for compliance with 49 CFR 192, ASME B31.8, and Nscale standards.
  • Drive route selection, hydraulic analyses, MAOP determinations, and integrity management planning.
  • Provide engineering support during pipeline construction including welding procedures, NDT, hydrostatic testing, and commissioning.
  • Manage interface points with midstream pipeline operators and ensure smooth tie-ins.
  • Drive QA/QC programs and resolve technical issues that arise during field execution.
  • Ensure full compliance with PHMSA, DOT, WVPSC, and applicable state and federal pipeline regulations.
  • Partner with Permit Manager and Energy Attorney on regulatory filings, FERC matters, and compliance obligations.
  • Establish and maintain pipeline integrity management and operator qualification programs.
  • Lead pipeline commissioning, purging, and start-up in coordination with the O&M team.
  • Develop operating procedures, emergency response plans, and SCADA/measurement integration.
  • Support fuel gas reliability analyses, redundancy planning, and contingency operations.
  • Lead procurement and oversight of pipeline EPC and midstream service providers.
  • Manage budgets, schedules, and change orders for pipeline scope.
  • Build and develop in-house pipeline engineering capability over time.
