About The Position

The Pipefitter installs, routes, fabricates, and tests hydraulic, coolant, pneumatic, and process piping for industrial machinery. The work includes new machine builds, rebuilds, and in-house process support, ensuring systems meet drawings, pressure ratings, cleanliness standards, and performance specifications. The role owns piping work from layout through testing and handover, with occasional travel to customer sites to finish or correct a system. The position is based on the shop floor alongside mechanics, electricians, and assembly technicians, and reports to the production or shop supervisor. Drawings, fitting standards, gauges, bending and cutting equipment, specified fittings, and fluids are provided. The role requires careful attention to workmanship, safety, cleanliness, and communication to prevent rework and delays.

Requirements

  • Hands-on pipefitting or tubing experience on industrial machinery, hydraulics, or process equipment; residential plumbing alone is not sufficient.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and fitting schedules and build from them.
  • Proven skill cutting, bending, threading, flaring, and joining hydraulic and coolant lines.
  • Working knowledge of pressure testing, leak detection, and contamination control for fluid systems.
  • Reliable use of measuring tools, torque practices, and lockout/tagout.
  • Clear, timely communication with other trades to raise issues before they result in rework.

Responsibilities

  • Install piping, tubing, and related components for hydraulic, coolant, and pneumatic circuits in accordance with drawings, pressure ratings, and cleanliness standards.
  • Read P&IDs, isometric drawings, and assembly drawings, and route lines so they are supported, serviceable, and free of interference.
  • Fabricate pipe and tube by cutting, bending, threading, flaring, and joining to print and inspection requirements.
  • Perform pressure, leak, and function checks, record results, and close punch-list items before handover.
  • Diagnose and correct leaks, restrictions, and fitting failures on new builds and rebuilds.
  • Coordinate materials and work sequencing with mechanics, electricians, and supervisors to avoid delaying machine completion.
  • Maintain a clean work area and follow lockout, fluid-handling, and quality procedures.
  • Occasionally travel to customer sites to finish or correct systems.
