About The Position

The Pipefitter Top Helper assists pipefitters with the layout, preparation, assembly, installation, inspection, and repair of piping systems. The role supports work on systems such as water, gas, and steam, following project specifications, blueprints, and safety protocols. The helper also maintains tools and records, helps resolve project issues, and supports the training of less experienced helpers.

Requirements

• Minimum of 2–3 years of experience as a pipefitter helper or in a similar role.
• Strong understanding of pipefitting techniques and practices.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Proficiency in using hand and power tools related to pipefitting.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
• Ability to work in varying heat and cold and in noise levels at or above 90 decibels.
• OSHA 10 certification obtained within the last 5 years.

• Completion of relevant vocational training or an apprenticeship program.

Responsibilities

• Assist pipefitters with the layout, assembly, and installation of piping systems in accordance with project specifications and blueprints.
• Measure, cut, thread, and bend pipes to required angles using hand and power tools.
• Help install piping systems, supports, fixtures, and equipment for water, gas, steam, and other systems.
• Inspect and test installed systems for leaks and other issues, and make necessary adjustments and repairs.
• Follow safety regulations and protocols, wear appropriate PPE, and participate in safety meetings.
• Maintain tools and equipment by cleaning and storing them properly and ensuring they are available when needed.
• Help maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and project issues.
• Identify and resolve project issues with practical solutions that support project timelines and quality standards.
• Assist in training and mentoring less experienced helpers and promote skill development and trade best practices.
