About The Position

Electric Boat is seeking individuals to join their Lagging Department during a period of significant growth. The role involves applying various insulation treatments to piping systems and shipboard components. Responsibilities include using materials like fiberglass, calcium silicate, and PVC Nitrile rubber for anti-sweat, personnel protection, thermal, and acoustic insulation. The job also involves using chicken wire and cement for hard coverings, sewing treatments, interpreting drawings and schedules, and working in potentially restricted, confined, and radiological areas. The position requires the ability to interpret technical documents and blueprints, perform basic layout, and be willing to work road assignments, all shifts, and overtime. Candidates must possess their own basic hand tools and be able to obtain and maintain a US Department of Defense SECRET Clearance.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED OR 2+ years of relevant technical experience
  • 5+ years of relevant pipecovering experience
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals, shipyard procedures, test documents, blueprints, diagrams, and perform basic layout functions
  • Must be willing to work road assignments and work in Radiological areas of the boat
  • Must be able to work all shifts
  • Must be available to work overtime assignments as required
  • Will be required to possess your own basic hand tools
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain as US Dept. of Defense SECRET Clearance

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Additional preference given for Vocational, Technical and Community Colleges or Apprentice programs
  • Military Shipbuilding, manufacturing, or shipyard experience

Responsibilities

  • Apply anti-sweat, personnel protection, thermal, and acoustic insulation treatments on all piping systems and major shipboard components.
  • Use fiberglass, calcium silicate, PVC Nitrile rubber, barium sulfate, and other standard lagging coverings.
  • Use chicken wire and high-temperature cement to provide a hard covering on some insulation materials.
  • Sew various coverings on other treatments.
  • Interpret drawings and insulation schedules to complete assigned work.
  • Work in restricted and confined spaces.
  • Interpret technical manuals, shipyard procedures, test documents, blueprints, and diagrams.
  • Perform basic layout functions.
  • Work road assignments and in Radiological areas of the boat.
  • Work all shifts.
  • Work overtime assignments as required.
  • Possess own basic hand tools.
  • Obtain and maintain a US Dept. of Defense SECRET Clearance.
