About The Position

Gulf Marine Repair of Tampa, Florida is hiring a full-time Pipe Fitter. The role works closely with pipe department supervisors and pipe welders to resolve design deficiencies, system breakdowns, equipment malfunctions, and other ship repair situations. Fit pipe assemblies to work orders or blueprints, perform material take-offs, and prepare assemblies for production welding. The position also involves valve repair and maintenance, sanitary and potable water systems, engine cooling systems, and other equipment aboard vessels. The work takes place outdoors, in confined spaces and the elements, aboard shipyard vessels, and in the shop. Employees may travel to other local ports in the area using a company truck. The employer does not provide tools; applicants must have their own. Shipyard experience is preferred.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Two years of pipe fitting experience.
Must have own tools; the employer does not provide tools.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Conflict management, leadership, team-building, and time management skills.
Attention to detail, organizational, problem-solving, analytical, critical-thinking, and decision-making skills.

Nice To Haves

Shipyard experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Work with pipe department supervisors and pipe welders to address design deficiencies, system breakdowns, equipment malfunctions, and other repair situations.
Fit up pipe assemblies according to work orders or blueprints.
Perform material take-offs for cost accounting on repair jobs.
Prepare pipe assemblies for production welders.
Tear down, repair, repack, and reassemble valves in place.
Assess and repair reach-rods, deck actuators, valve handles, valve bodies, and bonnets.
Repair sanitary systems aboard vessels.
Work with fresh and potable water systems aboard vessels.
Work with engine cooling systems.
Repair or renew other equipment as needed.
Assist with valve, reach rod, heat exchanger, and other miscellaneous mechanical work.
Follow ABS and USCG pipe fitting requirements.
