Requirements

  • Must have a law degree from an A.B.A. accredited law school and excellent academic credentials.
  • Must have an active law license to practice in Michigan and be a member in good standing with the State Bar of Michigan.
  • 2+ years of experience handling PIP litigation preferred.
  • Knowledge of local and state discovery rules, trial procedures, and applicable substantive law commensurate with level of experience.
  • Experience presenting and cross-examining lay and expert witnesses.
  • Experience working in a paperless electronic environment.
  • Strong automation/technological skills for lawsuit handling and courtroom presentation.
  • All candidates must possess excellent academic credentials, outstanding written and oral advocacy skills and strong software/technological skills including competency in Word, Outlook and Westlaw.
  • Ideal candidates will be well organized, detail oriented and able to independently manage a caseload where work is time sensitive.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional handling of first and third party claims for auto carriers is a plus.
  • Preferred qualification is the handling of PIP defense matters.

Responsibilities

  • Handle PIP files from inception to conclusion, including pleadings, depositions, motion practice, negotiations, trial and appeal.
  • Analyze complex legal and factual issues to develop and implement effective litigation strategies.
  • Manage discovery, including drafting discovery requests and responses, taking and defending depositions, and analyzing medical records.
  • Ability to take full responsibility for files.
  • Directs support staff on clerical and administrative matters related to handling legal proceedings.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisors.
