The Centerless Grinder Specialist maximizes advance technical and skill knowledge efficiency through the operation process of automatic and hand-feed machines to manufacture various types of fasteners and special products for new or revised products. The specialist aligns jobs and troubleshoots for operators, monitors technique, quality and productivity. Other duties may be assigned. Assists supervisor to assign jobs and machines to operators, monitors technique, tooling, quality and quantity of production, troubleshoots and assists operators with machining problems. Proficient to operate and maintain 3 or more machines according to detail blueprints, specifications, work orders and instructions. Independently sets-up, operation and maintains automatic and hand-feed machines according to detail blueprints, specifications, work orders and instructions. Selects and obtains proper material and tooling for the job. Checks tooling and reworks as needed to manufacture part to print specification. Mains correct dimensions of parts while running the job using measuring instruments such as micrometers, comparators, calipers, and gauges, inspects completed parts to ensure they meet blueprints/specifications. Recognizes improper machine functioning and makes necessary adjustments as needed. Perform minor repairs, and determines correction action to be taken for improved quality and tooling life. May be required to write work orders on machines requiring maintenance and report any machine maintenance issues to lead person or supervisor. Assigns and schedules work to operators and machinists through coordination staffing with lead person or supervisor. Represents Factory/Department manufacturing on cross-functional teams or in-house committees. Provide daily direction, training and assessment for peer assigned to for development. Documents required assessment that includes a summary of the curricular, skill level achieved, further development recommendation and / or competencies not achieved during the development period. Assist leads in the development, training, observation and assessment of operators to improve production efficiencies, skill set, responsibilities and knowledge. Reports any discrepancies to supervisor. Reports any safety violation, machining equipment misusage and/or improperly performed work to supervisor, may provide input and feedback for action including disciplinary action. Proceeds with completion of job, observing machine frequently to verify correct operation and ensure all safety initiatives are observed. Demonstrated advanced and extensive technical knowledge and experience in reading and interpreting blueprints, use of shop and measuring tools, shop floor requirement applications, and centerless grinder machine operation knowledge to include trouble shooting, Demonstrated ability to perform Statistical Process Control (SPC) checks per specification, Master cam (CAM software) and acts in accordance with output and demonstrates knowledge and use of Shop Floor Systems. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Verifies proper placement of all safety guards and adheres to all safety procedures. Works under limited supervision with a wide degree of creativity and latitude is required. Implements management direction and suggests waste elimination initiatives specifically related to the function and department such as recycling opportunities to elimination of production and waste. Adheres and complies with all rules and regulations set forth by Federal, Local, and State government, LISI Aerospace, and Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies, practices and procedures. Responsible for attending all training provided and for adhering to all HSE procedures, policies, and plans, conforming to reporting requirements and safe operating procedures at all times. Required to follow through and bring any known or suspected nonconformance for all company procedures or legal requirements to lead, supervisor or management’s attention immediately. ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS SKILLS AND ABILITIES Education and/or Experience High School Diploma or GED Minimum 1 year certificate from college or technical school preferred. Working experience in aerospace fastener manufacturing environment Advance knowledge of various grinder machinery and procedures Advance technical knowledge with quality and SPC. A minimum of 10+ year’s equivalent combination of education and work experience. Language Skills Ability to read, comprehend and communicate difference forms of correspondence and basic technical procedures. Ability to write basic reports, instructions and not limited to memos to effectively present written information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and team members. Mathematical Skills Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts and calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, ratios and standard units of measurements. Reasoning Ability Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts and follow instructions in written and basic diagram formats.
