About The Position

The Center for Human Development (CHD) is seeking an Outreach Caseworker to join our growing Planning and Implementing Housing Options for Long-term Success (PILOTS) team in Torrington, CT. Through this program, the PILOTS Outreach Caseworker will use a counseling approach that uses both motivational interviewing and harm-reduction. As a PILOTS Outreach Caseworker, you will assist program participants to live independently in the community by addressing their mental and physical health, substance use, employment and housing needs. The Support Specialist actively promotes the philosophy of the agency and maintains a high level of commitment to program participants. PILOT’s Outreach Caseworkers use a counseling approach that utilizes both motivational interviewing and harm-reduction.

Requirements

Ability to effectively manage crisis situations
Must be comfortable engaging in the community for majority of the position
Field visits within the surrounding communities to see participants
High school diploma or GED required
Reliable, registered & insured vehicle and approved driving record check
Approved criminal background check (CORI)

Nice To Haves

Experience working with psychiatric disorders or co-occurring population preferred
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educational institution preferred

Responsibilities

Securing housing, move-in, relocations, interventions in eviction processes, rent arrears and housing stability.
Assist participants with budgeting/banking
Help participants with obtaining and maintaining entitlements.
Provide crisis intervention
Provide vocations assistance; resume writing, interview preparations, and job search assistance.
