About The Position

Under the direction of the Healthy Living Director, the Special Skills Instructor plans and teaches specialized group exercise classes to participants. Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Specialized certification – for revenue producing programs.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification (must be obtained within 30 days of hire)
  • Bilingual, English and Spanish, a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills: ability to interact with individuals at all levels.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Must be organized and detail oriented.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Passionate about wellness
  • High-energy personality, outgoing and enjoys working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfortable with public speaking and engaging with adults.
  • Innate desire to provide excellent customer service to participants, which will result in an exceptional wellness experience.
  • Ability to lift / move set up and store equipment weighing up to fifty pounds.
  • Being in good physical health with full range of body motion, including manual and finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Occasionally requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.
  • Must successfully complete a drug test.
  • Must submit to and satisfactorily clear a thorough Level II fingerprint background screening.

Nice To Haves

  • Two or more years of experience participating in, or teaching or comparable experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Arrives at least 15 minutes prior to beginning of work shift.
  • Develops and plans appropriate programs for YMCA participants.
  • Collaborates with the Program Director to coordinate and promote the Y’s Healthy Living program throughout the community.
  • Plans, supervises, and implements programs in accordance with YMCA of South Florida core values, policies, and Risk Management and Safety procedures.
  • Demonstrates, models and gears program to the needs of individual or members in the program with concerns for their interests, disabilities, and special talents.
  • Ensures that the arrangement, appearance, decor, and environment of the Group Ex room are safe and conducive to exercising.
  • Attends YMCA functions such as staff meetings and program events.
  • Follows the YMCA of South Florida Risk Management procedures by reporting any incident / accidents to Program Director and / or Human Resources within 24 hours.
  • Other duties as needed based on Family Center or Program Site requirements or needs.
