About The Position

Schools of the Sacred Heart, San Francisco is seeking an excellent candidate for the role of Piano Teacher serving students from 1st-12th grade in our after school ( 3:00-6:PM ) Music Conservatory. Candidates should be compelling teaching artists who are confident in their capacity to create and deliver a dynamic music teaching experience that encourages students to reach their potential. Schools of the Sacred Heart is committed to an in-person teaching model and faculty must be prepared to adhere to and support our Health and Safety Plan. The piano instructor will develop weekly lesson plans to advance musical growth and work with students to prepare them for a culminating performance to be presented to their peers and families. Proven professional experience as a piano instructor is required. Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in music or music education.
  • Previous professional piano teaching experience required, independent school preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with students and families
  • Energetic, driven, creative, and dependable.
  • Demonstrates patience and leadership skills.
  • Be available to teach weekday afternoons ( 3:00- 6:00 pm ) during the academic year
  • Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students with various learning profiles.
  • Innovative, creative, and flexible teaching style.
  • Understanding the developmental needs of students and how they learn best.
  • Must be detail-oriented, organized and willing to take initiative.
  • Must have excellent teamwork skills and the ability to work well with students and adults.
  • Must be a role model and maintain a high level of professionalism.

Nice To Haves

  • Certifications or licenses in respective art form is a plus
  • A teaching demo video is highly recommended

Responsibilities

  • Ability to teach various styles of piano music (pop, jazz, classical, etc) from beginner to advanced solo repertoire and accompanying(when possible)
  • Develop a clear weekly lesson plan and at-home practice plan for K-12 students
  • Guide and assign appropriate repertoire based on pedagogical needs and/or student interest.
  • Teach music reading and notation, theory, and develop their aural skills
  • When applicable, collaborate with daytime music faculty to support the current music curriculum
  • Communicate regularly with families about practice expectations and necessary recital information
  • Engage, encourage, and motivate students to artistic growth
  • Provide a welcoming and enjoyable environment.
  • Stay up-to-date with your artistic discipline and implement corrective changes to routine and lesson plans.
  • Available to attend bi-annual recitals on Sunday (Winter and Spring).
