About The Position

This is your opportunity to spend your afternoons helping children explore, learn and grow through music. You’ll witness those quiet little breakthroughs—a new note discovered, a tricky rhythm finally mastered, a proud smile after a finished song—and you’ll know you helped make it happen. Classes are small (maximum of 6 students) and full of energy, held at schools or community centers in your neighborhood. Students range from preschool through elementary age, grouped by age and ability. Every child in the room has signed up because they want to be there, and that makes all the difference. Lessons are joyful, interactive and thoughtfully paced to match each child’s growth. The curriculum is organized and designed especially for young beginners. You’ll receive hands-on training on how to guide each age group, how to teach piano in a group setting, and how to plan fun, motivating lessons that keep children engaged and progressing. Training happens both in and out of the classroom, with continued support to help you grow, refine your teaching skills, and stay connected to a team of teachers that shares your goals.

Requirements

Have real experience working with young children and enjoy helping them explore, create, and express themselves
Studied piano with a teacher and have a solid understanding of music theory and technique
Feel excited about the idea of teaching and have a natural desire to see others grow
Are open to learning, willing to be coached, and appreciate thoughtful feedback
Value patience, flexibility and connection in your approach to children
Strive to create a warm, encouraging space where every child feels seen and capable
Are organized, dependable and comfortable working independently
Have your own transportation
Are available on Monday afternoons
Live in or near Kirkland
Can commit to teaching for at least one year

Responsibilities

Teach small group piano classes for children
Plan each class using provided lesson outlines, objectives, and materials
Create an engaging, supportive environment where children enjoy learning
Work independently in the classroom, while being part of a team that shares ideas, celebrates progress, and supports one another
Communicate with students and families in a kind and professional way
Represent Move Over Mozart with care, reliability and enthusiasm
Continue growing through training, mentorship and support from the studio
