About The Position

Belmont Mansion is seeking a part-time, experienced, and accomplished pianist who enjoys history and historical instruments. This role involves performing in a unique historical setting, playing a 158-year-old piano in an 1860s era room, and strengthening public speaking skills. Performances will be 45-minute to one-hour long and take place during regular museum visitor hours, both during the week and on weekends. The ideal applicant will demonstrate mastery of the piano, the ability to sight-read music, adapt to playing a historical instrument, convey the history of the instrument and music to the public (using a provided script), work as part of a team, possess a strong public speaking presence, and exhibit superior customer service skills.

Requirements

Must be enrolled as a student at Belmont University.
Must have training and performance experience as a pianist.
Demonstrated mastery of the piano.
Ability to sight-read music.
Ability to learn and adapt to playing a historical instrument.
Skill set to convey to the public the history of the instrument as well as the music being played (script provided by Belmont Mansion staff).
Willingness to work as one part of a bigger team.
Strong public speaking presence.
Demonstrate superior customer service skills.
Ability to climb stairs.
Ability to remain positive, respectful, and flexible in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

Perform on an 1860s box grand piano in the Grand Salon of Belmont Mansion.
Conduct 45-minute to one-hour performances during regular museum visitor hours (Mon - Sat: 10:00 am to 4:00 pm; Sunday: 11:00 am to 4:00 pm).
Convey to the public the history of the instrument and the music being played, using a script provided by Belmont Mansion staff.
Adapt to playing a historical instrument.
Demonstrate superior customer service skills.
