About The Position

Saint Pius X Catholic Church in Mountlake Terrace is seeking an experienced accompanist for our 9am mass Traditional Choir. The ideal candidate will be familiar with the Catholic Liturgy. The time commitment includes rehearsals on Thursdays from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM, and Sunday Mass from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM, which includes a pre-Mass rehearsal. The role involves accompanying a variety of choral music and congregational music.

Requirements

Strong piano and/or organ skills, with the ability to play a variety of musical styles.
Ability to sight-read music and follow the conductor’s tempo, adapting to various musical styles as needed.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with choir members and directors.
Ability to address challenges that arise during rehearsals and performances, adapting as needed.
Assist choir members in learning their parts, providing guidance on tempo, phrasing, and style.

Nice To Haves

Familiarity with the Catholic Liturgy.
Previous experience as a choir accompanist or in a similar role.
A degree in music or a related field is advantageous but not required.

Responsibilities

Provide piano or organ accompaniment for choir rehearsals and Mass performances.
Work closely with the choir director to select music, arrange pieces, and ensure cohesive performances.
Attend all scheduled rehearsals and performances, including special events such as weddings and funerals if required.
Prepare music for rehearsals and performances, including transposing and arranging as necessary.
Maintain regular, timely and sustained attendance for each performance and rehearsal.
For planned absences, provide as much notice as able to the Choir Director.
