About The Position

The Medical Physics Residency Program is designed to provide comprehensive training in medical physics. Residents will satisfactorily complete all rotations and responsibilities as defined by the Residency Director. This includes attending all physics and Molecular Radiobiology lectures, taking all associated tests, and completing mock-oral reviews at 12 and 18 months. Residents will rotate through various specialized areas including External Beam, Brachytherapy, Advanced Technologies, and satellites. They will participate in a series of consecutive annuals, monthly QA’s, IMRT QA’s, HDR warm-ups, and HDR monthly QA’s before joining rotational coverage. The program also involves participation in research and clinical projects to foster clinical development. Residents are expected to demonstrate commitment to the core values of excellence, innovation, integrity, respect, teamwork, and communication, while adhering to all applicable policies and procedures. Sound judgment, awareness of potential hazards, and prompt reporting of errors or potential harm are essential. Residents must understand and demonstrate appropriate response to emergency procedures. The incumbent treats all patients, co-workers, physicians, and visitors with sensitivity, dignity, and respect.

Requirements

  • M.S. degree or PhD in Medical Physics preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Satisfactorily complete all rotations and responsibilities as defined by the Residency Director.
  • Attend all physics lectures given by the Medical Physics staff for the Department’s Physician Residents and take all tests given as part of this course.
  • Attend all Molecular Radiobiology lectures given by the Molecular Radiobiology staff for the Department’s Physician Residents and take all tests given as part of this course.
  • Satisfactorily complete mock-oral reviews at 12 and 18 months.
  • Rotate with the Staff Physicists in External Beam, Brachytherapy, Advanced Technologies, and satellites when necessary.
  • Participate in three (3) consecutive annuals before joining rotational coverage of annuals.
  • Participate in three (3) consecutive monthly QA’s before joining rotation of monthly QA’s, including simulators and CT simulators.
  • Participate in ten (10) consecutive IMRT QA’s before joining IMRT QA rotations.
  • Participate in ten (10) consecutive HDR warm-ups before joining HDR warm-up rotation.
  • Participate in three (3) HDR monthlies before joining HDR monthly QA rotation.
  • Participate in research and clinical projects as deemed necessary for clinical development and as approved by the Residency Director and the Director of Medical Physics.
  • Demonstrate commitment to core values of excellence and innovation, integrity and respect, teamwork and communication.

  • Use sound judgment and be aware of potential hazards before taking action.
